  18. I'm looking to start programming on the ST.  I would prefer to use
  19. Assembly over a high level language, but am not sure of the best package
  20. to get.  I've heard AssemPro is quite good.  Anybody have any comments
  21. on this or another package?

  23. The price I've seen is about $40 from MicroTyme.  I know these folks are
  24. good, and the price looks right.

  40.         With all the talk about the quality of European magazines as compared
  41. to American magazines(which I always thought sucked) I was wondering if anyone
  42. could post a list of magazines availible.  This list should contain all the
  43. information neccessary to get a subscription.  I am personally interested in
  44. any UK or German magazine.  My German isn't that good but should be good
  45. enough to understand the magazines.  Thanks in advance.

  94. Well, the 1.4 ROMs arrived and after installation, the system acted
  95. exactly the same. Spectre operations worked flawlessly while desktop
  96. copies under GEM bombed quite reliably.

  98. I recently opened the 1040 again and removed the high 2 MB bank and
  99. re-enabled the old .5 MB bank on the motherboard. The problems have
  100. apparently completely disappeared!!!! I copied >80 small files to a
  101. floppy (till it errored out because it was full!) several times under
  102. the desktop on GEM and the Spectre operation hasn't given any problems
  103. either (except for the reduced memory size).

  105. Might I ask if Mr. Pratt and/or Mr Townsend might enquire of the
  106. 'hardy boys' (thanks Tracy) in the back room if there was an early
  107. problem with the MMU which might have shown up at exactly 4 MB of
  108. memory (an off-by-one error in the decoding or something)?

  110. I'm thinking of re-cycling the 1040 (sans extra memory) thru the
  111. classifieds and looking for a current model if there isn't a simple
  112. chip swap fix.

  150. Has anyone had any experience with any removable, high-capacity drives for the
  151. ST?  I recall Supra has an FD-10, or some such, 10 Meg floppy.  A company
  152. called Westco Electronics advertised a Bernoulli type device, but their phone
  153. number is no longer in service.  A couple of companies are supposed to be
  154. working on 20Meg 3 1/2" systems (not specifically for the ST), but I haven't
  155. heard any announcements.  So, are there any devices such as this available now?
  156. And what has been your experience with them?  Thanks for any info.

  171. I am halfway in adding a second mech to my SH205.  Unfortunately it is not
  172. as straightforward as it seems:
  173.  1) It does not fit easily (just a cm missing)
  174.  2) The powersupply will not spin up both disks simultaneously (50W,
  175.     1.6A on the 12V is not enough for 2 Tandon TM262).  Got another one.
  176.  3) I get weird errors and a hung-up bus as soon I try to access lun1,
  177.     even without the second drive attached.
  178. Can anyone offer any help?  The same set-up worked fine for a friend with
  179. an SH204.

  192. supply and documentation (written by myself).  Price is $40 plus $5
  193. shipping.

  195. Zenith 5.25 inch disk drive for the ST.  It's brand new, includes a
  196. data cable (built in) and a built-in power supply.  I got a few of these
  197. from a friend of mine (he owns a computer store).  Also included is a
  198. disk containing the needed drive access-time program and a formatting
  199. program.  If you have PC DITTO, you need a 5.25 inch drive!  The drive
  200. is only $140 plus $10 shipping.

  226. written by Jim Charlton <charltn@ccm.umanitoba.ca> and distributed
  227. recently in the comp.sources.atari.st newsgroup.

  230. code I've seen.
